Can Daniel Bryan Survive Two Giants?

World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry (Triple Threat Steel Cage Match)
A months-long score will finally be settled when World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan takes on Big Show and Mark Henry in a Triple Threat Steel Cage Match at the 25th Anniversary of the Royal Rumble. It’s a classic tale of David vs. Goliath … vs. Goliath. Only, in this telling, David has already survived face-offs with both giants, which begs the question: Can Bryan do it again inside the confines of the unforgiving steel?

This explosive three-way rivalry ignited at last year’s WWE TLC pay-per-view after Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank title opportunity, dethroning the newly crowned Big Show moments after the giant defeated Mark Henry in a brutal World Title Chairs Match.

However, the seeds were planted long before that. Big Show and Mark Henry battled in several pay-per-views, beginning at Money in the Bank, where Henry came out on top – injuring Show and sending him to the Hall of Pain. Then, in one of the most talked-about matches of 2011, The World’s Largest Athlete and The World’s Strongest Man “tore it down” at Vengeance when Henry’s superplex of The World’s Largest Athlete literally destroyed the ring.

One month later, when the two giants met at the 2011 Survivor Series, Henry was disqualified after delivering a low blow. After the match, Henry continued his assault on Big Show but The World’s Largest Athlete turned the tables on the champion and injured Henry’s knee in the process.

As the destructive rivalry progressed between the two behemoths, Big Show went out of his way to encourage the determined Daniel Bryan, even nudging him to cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Henry. However, once Bryan actually won the title from Show, the gigantic Superstar and the rest of the WWE Universe immediately noticed a change in the new champion’s demeanor.

On the Jan. 6 episode of SmackDown, Henry had the perfect vantage point for the World Heavyweight Title Rematch between Bryan and Big Show, joining the SmackDown announce team. Before the match could be decided, an altercation with Henry ended the match in a controversial disqualification, leaving a frustrated Big Show once again without the title.

What occurred on the Jan. 13 episode of SmackDown did nothing to quell the growing animosity between Bryan and Big Show. During their No Disqualification/No Count-out rematch, Big Show inadvertently ran into Bryan’s girlfriend, AJ, at ringside. Even though Show seemed genuinely distraught after the disturbing collision, Bryan has torn apart The World’s Largest Athlete for what he claims to be a malicious — and very deliberate — act of aggression.

Tensions were sky-high at “Sin City SmackDown” just one week after the accident when extenuating circumstances once again saved Bryan in his Lumberjack World Title Match against Mark Henry. After the action descended into chaos, SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long decided to make the epic Triple Threat Steel Cage World Title Match at Royal Rumble official.

Will Daniel Bryan somehow manage to best two giants in one match, or will his luck finally run out in the confines of the Steel Cage?

Find out at the Royal Rumble, Sun., Jan. 29 at 8/5 PT, only on pay-per-view!

1/21 /12 – Fargo, N.D

Big Show beat World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan via DQ; Bryan retained the World Title. Mark Henry was a no-show for an advertised three-way match, so it was a regular singles match. Show was going for the win, but Bryan held onto the title after outside interference from Wade Barrett and David Otunga caused the DQ. Barrett and Otunga were then double-chokeslammed. Bryan seems to be slowly turning heel here.

Digitals - Screen Captures

Inside the arena in Las Vegas, fireworks shot off and the camera panned the crowd. Daniel Bryan was introduced to the live crowd. He walked to the ring in a sour mood. Michael Cole said Bryan had been “emotionally ripped apart,” and talked about his match tonight for the title with Mark Henry. Once in the ring, Bryan grabbed a microphone. He said tonight’s show is aptly named “Sin City Smackdown,” because it’s exactly what Big Show did to his girlfriend last week – committing a sin, that is. He pointed out the weight difference between the two and said Show bowling over AJ was intentional and that Show only pretended to be sorry. He accused Show of crying crocodile tears. Bryan accused Show of being bitter because his World Title reign was the shortest in history, a mere 45 seconds. He said Show never lived that title loss down. He called Show a “bitter, selfish, vengeful freak.”
Bryan paused and then continued, saying AJ sustained head trauma, a cervical sprain, and her career is in jeopardy. He claimed AJ insisted on being with him at ringside. He said she put herself in harm’s way because she loves him. He said no one has ever said that to him before. He said he had a great admiration for her as well, and once again dedicated his match to her, saying in spirit, she will be in his corner. Turning his attention to Mark Henry, he said he’s not afraid of him. He said Show isn’t here tonight as the crowd rained down chants of “you suck.” Bryan said it’s a good thing Show is absent since he can’t be held responsible for what he’d do. He told Show to do the right thing and quit before he inevitably hurts another victim. Another really good Bryan promo.

MARK HENRY vs. DANIEL BRYAN – LUMBERJACK MATCH FOR THE WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Henry barked at Barreta before he got into the ring. Henry took off his t-shirt and tossed it at Bryan after formal ring introductions and once the bell rang. Bryan was thrown to the apron and told the lumberjacks (Barrett and Gabriel among them) not to touch him. Henry headbutted Bryan down. Bryan slid under the ring and Bryan pushed Reks. He lectured the men from the apron and Henry jumped him as soon as Bryan entered the ring. Henry stepped on Bryan’s chest with both feet. Bryan fought out of the corner and was headbutted back down. Hard shot to the chest by Henry. “All day long!” he shouted. “Daniel Bryan” chant. Henry sent Bryan to ringside, where he was thrown back in by Barrett. He asked what they were doing and Barrett responded, “I’m doing my job.” They went to break with Bryan sitting in the corner at 2:58.
[Commercial Break]
Back at 5:54 of the match, with Henry giving Bryan a monster beal out of the corner. Bryan tried to fight back and chopped Henry. Running dropkick in the corner by the champion and Henry was down to his knees. Kick to the head of Henry for a two-count. Henry powered out and Bryan fell through the ropes. He and the Lumberjacks stared at each other and they began to slowly advance on him, leading him to get back in the ring. Henry, given time to recover, had his way with Bryan. He even turned Bryan inside-out with a clothesline. Henry press slammed Bryan out of the ring. What sounded like an edit had Cole point out that Bryan raked the eyes of Henry as he performed the move. A brief attack on Bryan occurred outside the ring. Bryan dropkicked Henry out of the ring. They ganged up on Henry but Bryan kicked away at them. Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Wade Barrett and Ezekiel Jackson attacked Bryan in the ring. No bell here. Henry shrugged off the Lumberjacks and peeled them off of Bryan back in the ring. He picked Bryan up for the World’s Strongest Slam, but Rhodes kicked Henry. All the lumberjacks got in the ring and a big brawl ensued. Still no bell. Henry was down in the ring and Bryan skulked away with his title. Henry was able to roll out of the ring.

WINNER: No Contest (no bell), around 11:30 (timed until the end of the show).
Backstage, Long caught up to Brayn. Long asked what the meaning of this was. Bryan said 30 guys were trying to beat him up out there and asked if Long was going to have him fight on the moon next. Long said no, but at the Royal Rumble, Bryan would face Henry and Big Show in a Triple Threat Match for the title inside a Steel Cage. The camera lingered on Bryan’s reaction to that news before fading out.

1/13/12 – Yakima, Wash

World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan beat Jamie Noble via submission in a non-title match in 11:00. Bryan got the crowd on his side and was very well-received throughout the match. The match was very physical, as most Bryan matches are. Jamie looked good and hadn’t lost a step; he’s a very solid person for Bryan to work with. There were a couple of good high spots with Frankensteiners. Bryan won with the LeBell Lock in eleven minutes.

1/15/12 – Prince George, B.C., Canada

Big Show beat World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan via DQ; Bryan retained the World Title. The main event was a good match, but ended rather quickly via DQ when Wade Barrett and Jinder Mahal attacked Big Show. Sheamus then made the save.

Daniel Bryan Interviewed On The Pressure Of Being World Champ
Posted by Emily | In Interviews | Date: January 20th, 2012 | Comment? (0)

WWE World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan talked in-character about his “improbable” World Title run and being chased by Mark Henry and Big Show in a recent interview with Silver City Sun-News.

Bryan Danielson, aka Daniel Bryan, aka the American Dragon, holds the WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt. That’s quite the accomplishment for someone you might mistake for a bouncer at your local nightclub.
Daniel Bryan stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 210 pounds. He’s not a larger-than-life human being; he doesn’t wear flashy costumes; he isn’t slated to be the next action movie hero. Daniel Bryan has the beginnings of a lumberjack’s beard, he’s from Aberdeen, Wash., and he’s known as a “wrestler’s wrestler” in the ring — like how they used they used to make ‘em in the good ol’ days, before Vince McMahon took control of WWE and put more emphasis on the E than the W.

Bryan — who joined the WWE mainstream in January 2010 — took down the 7-foot, 450-pound Big Show — a six-time world champion and WWE icon — on Dec. 18 at “TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs” to become the champ. Since then, Bryan has used his wits and wrestling skills to defend his title versus Big Show and Mark Henry — a 6-foot-4, 400-pound beast.

“They are both upset that I have the championship,”Bryan said in a phone interview with Pulse.“They’re two enormous guys that that are upset this little guy that’s been here for two years has the belt and they want it back.”

Bryan, Big Show and Mary Henry will have a triple threat match Sunday at the Pan American Center for the World Heavyweight Championship belt, one of the main events of the night. Don’t expect Bryan to run away screaming.

“I enjoy the pressure,”he said. This is what I worked so hard for the past 12 years. I have the belt and I’m not planning on giving it back.”

The Bryan-Big Show-Mark Henry battle is a recent addition to the card at the Pan American Center. Originally, the fight was to take place during a WWE SmackDown event at College Station, Texas. That show was canceled and some fights were moved to the Pan Am, which had already booked a WWE Raw show. With wrestlers from both brands going at it, Las Cruces wrestling fans are in for quite a show, a “supershow” in fact, according to WWE news releases.

“We have monitors in the back,”Bryan said,“but I’d much rather be out there in the stands watching the fights (Sunday). I’m excited. This is going to be an action-packed show.”

WWE Raw superstars CM Punk, The Miz, John Cena and Kane will all make appearances, as well as SmackDown stars Randy Orton and Wade Barrett.

This is the first WWE event at the Pan Am since a SmackDown show in May 2010, said Bobbie Welch, Pan Am Center booking and marketing coordinator. Sunday’s show should attract around 7,000 fans and be a near sell-out, Welch said.

“Whether it’s performing for 30 people or 30,000 people, we’ll give a good show,”Bryan said.“Everyone paid money to see it, and we’ll give them what they paid for.”
